Select Board warns of urgent River Road repairs, Town Hall window damage amid limited state funds

The Hinsdale Select Board on March 23 heard that sections of River Road have settled by about one foot in places and that immediate work was authorized under an emergency permit to stabilize the roadway.
Town Administrator Kathryn Lynch said crews moved barricades after staff observed additional sagging upstream and described what would be required if the roadway sinks further. Lynch told the board the state has not provided funding for the repairs, leaving the town to evaluate options and costs for longer-term stabilization.
The board also heard that a large window on the Post Office side of Town Hall blew out. Highway staff temporarily boarded the opening; Lynch reported one contractor estimate of $25,000 to repair rotten wood from the basement level up and to address surrounding brickwork. Highway staff member Brandon will obtain additional estimates for the work.
Lynch additionally reported progress on two old landfill wells: crews may have repaired one and removed an obstruction from the other, but the town will wait for November sampling and New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services approval before confirming successful repairs.
The board did not vote on a funding source during the meeting. Officials said barricades remain in place on River Road while the town seeks options and further cost information.
