Auburndale authorizes $1.94 million piggyback contract for Gapway sewer force main Phase II

The Auburndale City Commission authorized a piggyback contract with Carr & Collier Inc. for Phase II of the Gapway Sewer Force Main Project on July 21, approving a not-to-exceed amount of $1,941,700.
City Manager Jeffrey Tillman said the Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility Service Area Study identified the need for a second 16-inch force main along Gapway Road to support growth. Phase I, constructed in 2024 from the Hills of Arietta subdivision to Old Berkley Road, cost $1,577,371.40. Phase II will install the line from Old Berkley Road to the Regional Master Liftstation. The proposed piggyback uses pricing from a prior City of Orlando bid; Chastain-Skillman reviewed the proposal and confirmed the quote aligns with the FY2024 allocation of $5,525,000 for the overall project. Tillman said the city has had favorable experience with Carr & Collier Inc.
Commissioner Keith Cowie moved and Vice Mayor Alex Cam seconded authorization for the City Manager to execute a General Piggyback Purchasing Agreement for Phase II with Carr & Collier Inc. City Attorney Murphy confirmed documentation was in order and the motion passed unanimously.
