Members of the National City Parks & Recreation Senior Advisory Committee agreed to finalize a short presentation package to deliver to City Council on Nov. 20 that will summarize the committee's goals and recommendations.
Staff circulated a condensed slide packet and asked each member to send a preferred photo for a slide: "If everybody could send a picture... send me your preferred photo," the staff member said, explaining the packet was scaled back from six pages to a shorter format. Members discussed keeping the presentation concise and using notes for details rather than overcrowded slides.
The committee identified its priorities for the council presentation as performing and visual arts, continuous parks improvement and improving communication between council and advisory committees. Members said the intent is for the committee to be more active and visible: "What we're trying to do is actually have our recommendations... have our recommendations brought in front of the panelists," one committee member said.
Logistics: members said they expect roughly 15 minutes for the presentation and discussed assigning presenters and preparing notes. Staff recommended that the written statement also be formally submitted to the council in addition to the slide presentation.
Other items: non‑action items such as T‑shirt procurement and volunteer outreach were discussed as background items for the presentation but were kept off the main slide deck to keep the council presentation focused.
Next steps: Members will send photos and suggested edits to staff ahead of the packet deadline; staff will finalize the presentation for council submission and confirm the presentation time and speaker assignments.
