The Madison District Public Schools board completed its annual evaluation of Superintendent Perry and approved an overall rating of "effective" after a multi‑component presentation and a lengthy board discussion.
Perry presented a portfolio covering six evaluation components — visionary leadership, policy and governance, instructional leadership, communication and community relations, organizational management, and professionalism/ethics — and highlighted district achievements including meeting district growth goals (73.6% math growth and 70.9% literacy growth on NWEA), expanded summer programming (Discovery Works), and successful grant activity.
Board members questioned aspects of governance and communication, including how and when contract parameters are presented to the board and whether personnel contracts should be approved individually rather than in a bulk action. Some trustees expressed concern that enrollment goals were not met despite extensive grant activity and program expansion. After discussion and a consensus process to score each evaluation component, the board voted to approve the superintendent’s annual evaluation rating of "effective." The roll‑call vote passed with two members voting no (Cindy Holder and Gloria Thompson) and the motion carried.
