Resident asks Selectboard to rethink Ordway Park amenities, trail connection and trash policy

Forbes recommended the Selectboard consult the Recreation Commission and the director of public works before altering the park’s long-standing carry-in/carry-out trash policy, noting staff capacity and costs for emptying receptacles. She suggested the board consider adding picnic tables and other amenities, but raised concerns about accessibility, mowing and security. Forbes also said the park has been connected to the Rockingham Trail since 2011 via an Eagle Scout project supported by Friends of Ordway Park and that the pavilion was designed primarily as a shaded seating area, not a concert stage.
What the Selectboard should consider: Forbes urged a design-based approach that anticipates intended uses and associated maintenance needs before approving new facilities or changing policies; the board did not make decisions on park policy at the June 22 meeting.
