Benton Harbor Area Schools elects 2026 officers, approves memberships and creates grant-writer post

At its Jan. 13 organizational meeting the Benton Harbor Area Schools Board elected Desanna Robinson president and set its 2026 leadership team, approved association memberships and created a new grant-writer position to pursue capital and instruction funding.
The Benton Harbor Area Schools Board of Education elected Trustee Desanna Robinson president for 2026 and installed a new executive team during its Jan. 13 organizational meeting. Trustees also named Trustee Bowens vice president, Trustee Elnora Gavin treasurer and Trustee Triplet secretary.
The board approved continuing membership in the Michigan Association of School Boards and selected Trustee Bradley as its MASB delegate with Trustee Raquette Martin as alternate. Trustees also approved district auditors Gainbridge & Company for an extension of the current contract, with administration to return proposed fees for board sign-off.
Board members voted unanimously to create a district grant writer position funded from the general fund to prioritize capital-project grants aligned to the district's master facilities plan and instructional goals. Administration will finalize an effective date and job details, and trustees said they expect the new hire to coordinate closely with finance on grant reporting.
President Desanna Robinson and Secretary Triplet led the organizational proceedings. Trustees said they will finalize committee assignments ahead of the next meeting and review bylaw edits in a work session before publishing the annual meeting calendar.
