Broadview Heights to place utility, contract and capital maintenance items on next agenda after May 4 work session

Finance Director Dave Pfaff relayed an Ohio Consumers' Counsel alert that Enbridge Gas has proposed adding an approximately $9.50 flat fee to customer monthly bills and suggested council consider a resolution opposing the proposal and forwarding it to the Public Utilities Commission. "If council wants that, probably Vince or Robin would need to... there's a template for the legislation," Pfaff said, and council agreed to put a resolution on the agenda.
Pfaff also requested renewal of participation in Verizon's federal government pricing (GSA) program; he estimated the city's Verizon spending at roughly $36,000 a year and asked council to authorize staying on the program.
Service Director David Schroedel presented several infrastructure items: participation in NOPEC's Energized Community grant for the year; a request to piggyback on Cuyahoga County's rebid contract with United Survey for pipe grouting and lining; and roofing work for two pump stations and the police station. Schroedel said Campo Roof provided the low quotation and asked for authorization to award the work to that vendor.
Chief Building Official Joe Mandato said the Ken Ganley campus passed the final planning commission review and should be added to the Monday agenda for final administrative action.
Council members also discussed procedural items related to public comment and meeting participation. Council President Robert Boldt said he will consider putting proposed language on allowing public comment at every council meeting and to allow the mayor to speak during the council "go-round" in work sessions.
No final votes occurred at the May 4 work session; staff were instructed to place these items on the formal council meeting agenda for consideration and action.
