District highlights Zello career-exploration rollout and MTSS recognition; principals and teachers honored

Dr. Griffin summarized the Zello career-exploration rollout: kindergarten through second grade have begun career exploration activities and completion percentages vary by grade; grades three through five show an upward trend in completion with grade three lagging and grade five outperforming peers. For grades 6–12, the highest completion rates were in the matchmaker quiz (85%) and personality quiz (80%), while experience-based tasks showed lower completion (about 49%), signaling a need for targeted supports.
Trustees recognized school staff: Principal Jordan Wright of Fairplane Elementary was applauded for instructional leadership, and teacher Carrie Nelson was highlighted for an innovative flexible-seating strategy that increased student engagement. Director Nichols briefed trustees on student-support services, reporting that several buildings received Michigan MTSS recognition and that districtwide SEL and CRAM professional development sessions were completed, with additional secondary training planned.
Dr. Griffin said she had asked principals to run data sessions with students and parents now that marking period one is complete, to set goals and implement intervention plans for students with D/F grades. The superintendent also directed schools to display schoolwide and classroom data walls to track growth between benchmark cycles.
What happens next: District staff will continue Zello implementation, schedule professional development (including a district PD on Dec. 10), and principals will implement data-driven interventions and post data walls to track student progress.
