Council approves several maintenance, grant and event items including salt‑barn repairs and a USDA grant application

During the meeting Bronson’s council approved multiple maintenance and program authorizations: repairs to the Department of Public Works salt barn, resurfacing of the Greenwell Park parking lot, authorization to apply for a USDA Rural Business Development Grant to support a downtown business improvement program, and a Branch District Library special-event permit.

Brandon summarized the salt-barn proposals, which address broken trusses, replacement of roof boards and metal sidewalls and the addition of a lean‑to; the lowest bid cited in the packet was $22,900 from Dan Hersbrugger Construction and the council approved the work.

On the Greenwell Park parking lot, staff recommended a 2-inch hot-mix asphalt overlay to extend the lot’s service life at an estimated cost of $20,550; council approved proceeding with the resurfacing.

Brandon also described the USDA Rural Business Development Grant program and asked the council to authorize the city to apply to establish a downtown business‑improvement program (façade grants, equipment purchases and private investment incentives). Council approved the city applying for and administering the grant (listed as resolution 26-6-17 in the packet). Finally, council approved a Branch District Library special-event permit to use the Bronson Library parking lot for a community celebration (certificate of insurance on file).

The meeting included several brief administrative approvals as well: adding Jacob as an authorized signer on city accounts following his appointment as treasurer, and staff updates on water/wastewater projects (lead service line replacements and the Walker lift station project).
