Broadview Heights to consider DEA registration, landscaping contract and testing for fire station

Mayor Samuel J. Alai told council the DEA registration form requires the mayor’s signature so the Fire Department can handle certain controlled substances under new rules. "Now that they're going to be able to push level three drugs, they have to have a signature from the mayor," Alai said; councilors agreed to place the item on the agenda.
Chief Building Official Joe Mandato requested adding Bear Landscaping for grass cutting after the city lost previous contractor Turfscape and suggested extending a Cleary Brothers contract to cover services; Mandato also recommended contracting Summit Testing for third-party construction materials testing on the new fire station, noting Summit submitted the lowest price. Mayor Alai clarified the testing will be procured from the fire station budget and that the city will hire the independent tester rather than the contractor performing its own testing.
Council did not vote on any contract awards during the work session. Members signaled support to include the DEA registration, landscaping contract and testing contract on the next council agenda for formal action.
