The commission also approved the minutes of April 20, 2026, on a motion by Commissioner Jeff Welk, seconded by Commissioner Harry Whidden, by voice vote 4-0.
At 9:03 a.m. the commission moved into closed session. Commissioner Pete Tenderholt moved to enter closed session pursuant to §19.85(1)(c) of the Wisconsin Statutes to consider employment, promotion, compensation or performance evaluation data of public employees; Commissioner Jeff Welk seconded. A roll-call vote was recorded with Commissioners Whidden, Tenderholt, Melms and Welk voting aye and the motion carried 4-0. The closed session was used to conduct interviews of candidates for the Deputy Sheriff position.
After completing interviews, the commission returned to open session at 12:17 p.m. on a motion by Commissioner Jeff Welk, seconded by Commissioner Pete Tenderholt; the roll-call vote was Whidden aye, Tenderholt aye, Melms aye and Welk aye, 4-0. The minutes state that the commission certified a list of candidates for the Deputy Sheriff position; the minutes do not disclose interview content or candidate names because those deliberations occurred under the personnel exemption cited for the closed session.
No public comments were offered during the meeting. The commission adjourned at 12:18 p.m. on a motion by Commissioner Harry Whidden, seconded by Commissioner Jeff Welk; voice vote all ayes and the motion carried 4-0.
