County administrator: new animal control facility approved by state review; open house planned

County Administrator Nathan told the board that the new Sand Lake County animal control facility had completed state review with only minor fixes required and that licensing paperwork has been submitted.
"The building looks great, a phenomenal upgrade for animal control," Nathan said, adding that the state reviewer suggested the county’s facility could serve as a model for others. Commissioner John Black signed the licensing form during the meeting. Nathan said staff will handle the physical move of animals and that the county expects to schedule an open house for the public in roughly two weeks to allow residents to tour the new facility before animals are brought in.
The administrator said the state is working to expedite licensing because of the condition of the existing facility. Commissioners suggested the open house be widely publicized so residents have an opportunity to visit and participate in potential adoption activities once the facility is operational.
No formal action was required beyond the administrative authorizations and the chair’s signature; staff will continue coordinating with state licensing and report back when an open-house date is set.
