Sand Lake County commissioners approve package of contracts, purchases and ballot language

The Sand Lake County Board of Commissioners approved a package of finance, procurement and contract actions at its Feb. 3 session, advancing a host of routine operational items and authorizing ballot language for an August millage question.
The board voted to approve payment of current claims as listed on the accounts payable report dated Jan. 27, 2026, in the amount shown on that report. It then approved budget adoptions, amendments and transfers as presented. Commissioners also approved language for renewal of a 911 millage to be placed on the Aug. 4, 2026 primary election ballot, as reviewed by the prosecuting attorney and directed the county clerk to submit the language for placement.
Other approved items included a one-year renewal of panic-button software (Rave Mobile Safety) for the 911 central dispatch at a cost not to exceed $3,663.68 funded by the 911 millage fund; contracts for remonumentation work totaling not to exceed $71,665 to monument 50 corners in 2026; and a five-year grant-writer contract for parks recreation planning with John Frasier, not to exceed $12,000 (payments of $6,000 due June 1 and Dec. 1) funded by the parks mill.
The board authorized multiple parks-equipment purchases (two John Deere Z930M mowers, a John Deere 4066M compact utility tractor and a 2026 John Deere Gator TX) with trade-ins, for a total not to exceed $59,272.70 to be funded by the parks millage. The board also awarded a bid to Elite Electric for electrical repairs at Forester Park at a cost not to exceed $26,193.76 with contingency, funded by the parks millage.
On public-safety items, commissioners authorized sending a corrections deputy to the Oakland Community College Police Academy (Jan. 27–May 29, 2026) at a cost not to exceed $20,000 (with possible grant reimbursement), approved non-expiring agreements for contractual law-enforcement services between the sheriff’s office and several townships, and authorized purchase of a 2025 Chevrolet Express 15-passenger inmate transport van (not to exceed $59,994) with funding from the police vehicle fund and reimbursement from the U.S. Marshals Fund.
The board approved agreements for database management and printing services for townships, cities and villages through equalization and adopted a solar permit fee schedule for construction and land use, among other routine items.
All motions were moved, seconded and carried by voice vote; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the meeting transcript.
The board concluded new business without amending or tabling any item and moved to general public comment before adjourning at 1:48 p.m.
