County appoints local residents to drug task force, land bank and transportation boards

Sand Lake County commissioners on Dec. 16 appointed three residents to county advisory boards after brief interviews.
Cole Wood joined the meeting remotely from Washington, D.C., and told commissioners he has served on the county’s Drug Task Force and supports recent leadership changes that placed the task force under the sheriff’s office. "I really appreciate the opportunity," Wood said, adding he would like to continue as the citizen representative. The board approved his appointment to a two-year term expiring Dec. 31, 2027, by voice vote.
Kim Thompson said she is a lifelong Saddle County resident and is willing to continue service on the Land Bank Authority. The board appointed Tim Heiden and Kim Thompson to three-year terms on the Land Bank Authority ending Dec. 31, 2028; the motion carried by voice vote.
Brett Lester, a recent retiree with 27 years in law enforcement who now directs a men’s shelter and serves on community mental health committees, said he brings experience in government operations and nonprofit service. Commissioners appointed him to the Sand Lake Transportation Board for a four-year term expiring Jan. 1, 2029.
Board members thanked all candidates for volunteering and noted most appointments were unopposed. The appointments followed the board’s standard interview process and were approved without recorded roll-call tallies other than the standard "ayes" during the meeting.
