Council approves first reading to expand utility easement to improve fire suppression near Conackamack School

The Piscataway Township Council on June 30 approved on first reading an ordinance authorizing expansion of a permanent access and utility easement affecting Conackamack School and nearby property at 450 Rivercrest Drive.
Officials said the Fire Marshal recommended widening the easement so the current dead‑end water line becomes a looped connection, improving water pressure and fire suppression for the school and that section of town. The ordinance was offered by Councilman Uhrin, seconded by Councilmember Espinosa and passed on roll call; a second reading and public hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. on July 21, 2026 at the Piscataway Municipal Building, 455 Hoes Lane.
The ordinance text will be posted in at least two public places and a copy made available at the clerk’s office prior to the second reading, officials said. When and if the developer or utility submits specific construction plans, township professionals will review and comment as part of the standard permitting and infrastructure approval process.
