Administrator: Mahnomen Hospital earmarked $10M in bonding bill; city wins $62,000 EAB grant

City Administrator Taylor Guenther reported to the Mahnomen City Council that GOP and DFL leadership reached agreement on spending targets during the legislative session and that the resulting bonding bill target includes a $10 million earmark for Mahnomen Hospital. Guenther said the legislature’s mandatory adjournment date was May 18 and the city hoped to hear of final approval shortly; the minutes record the $10 million earmark as the hospital’s allocation under the agreement reached May 13.
Guenther also told the council that the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) passed a Mahnomen Emerald Ash Borer Preparation Project grant for $62,000 to target remaining ash trees for removal and replacement following a prior EAB grant. The minutes cite HF 3426 in the agenda packet.
Guenther reported the city’s Blandin placemaking LOI seeking $120,000 for playground turf and features was not selected to move forward. The administrator gave additional routine announcements including candidate-filing dates and results of the city-wide cleanup.
Councilors did not vote on the state-level bonding bill; the report was informational. Any release of funds or formal state action remains contingent on the legislature’s final bill passage and subsequent appropriations and agency processes.
