Council tables garbage complaint for 310 NE Main; first notice issued for 421 S Main

The Mahnomen City Council on March 16 considered two nuisance/garbage items. For 310 NE Main Street the administrator reported progress in cleanup but said weather conditions might delay removal. Council voted to table the complaint to the next meeting to allow additional time for the property owner to finish cleanup (motion by LuAnn Durant; seconded by Deb McArthur; carried 5–0). For 421 S Main Street, the packet included the first notice alleging violations of City Code §50.04 (container placement) and §92.19 (nuisance parking and storage); that matter was listed for follow-up.
Administrator Taylor Guenther also reported ongoing research into a billing approach used by Callaway to attach sanitation charges to utility bills and disconnect services for residents delinquent two months or more; staff said further research will be done before any policy change is proposed.
The packet includes sample first- and second-notice letters signed by the city administrator that describe the ordinance language and schedule a council hearing; the letters notify property owners that staff may abate nuisances and bill labor and equipment costs if corrections are not completed.
