Mahnomen council accepts lot from HHDC and agrees to sell it to county EDA for $1 to promote housing

The Mahnomen City Council on Jan. 20 approved a resolution to accept ownership of a parcel previously donated to Headwaters Housing Development Corporation (HHDC) and to convey the parcel to the Mahnomen County Economic Development Authority (EDA) for $1.
Council minutes state HHDC no longer intends to construct housing on the property (described in the minutes as the north 50 feet of Lot 1, Block 26, commonly located at 101 2nd St SW). The resolution authorizes the mayor and city clerk/administrator to sign documents necessary to effect the transfer back to the city and the subsequent sale to the EDA.
Council members said transferring the parcel to the EDA is intended to support future housing opportunities in Mahnomen when the city itself has no immediate plan to develop the lot. The resolution passed 5-0; the motion to approve was made by Council member LuAnn Durant and seconded by Deb McArthur.
Under the resolution, the city accepts the donation back from HHDC and then sells the property to the EDA for $1 to enable municipal-entity ownership and potential redevelopment for housing.
