Jasper County supervisors approve election equipment purchase, bridge plans and budget transfers

At its June 23 meeting the Jasper County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an Election Systems & Software purchase totaling $258,350 (split over two fiscal years), multiple bridge replacement plans, several intergovernmental 28E agreements, budget transfer of $20,000 and appointments to the West Malaka Newton Benefited Fire District.
The Jasper County Board of Supervisors took a slate of routine but material actions on June 23, 2026, approving purchases, infrastructure plans, budget transfers and personnel appointments in unanimous votes.
The board approved an Election Systems & Software agreement to purchase new election equipment for $258,350, with payments split between FY26/27 and FY27/28 (motion by Talsma, seconded by Cupples). It also approved final plans for replacement of bridges A08 (N. 99th Ave. E.), L01 (S. 12th Ave. E.) and R20 (Rosebud Ave/W. 24th St. S. over Buck Creek). The board accepted the Certificate of Completion and Final Acceptance for the S. 128th Ave. E. PCC pavement project (RC-C050(155)—9A-50).
Intergovernmental agreements were approved: a 28E agreement with Polk County for services in Mitchellville and a 28E agreement with the City of Newton outlining cost-sharing and responsibilities for replacing Bridge M02 (S. 24th Ave. W.). The board adopted Resolution 26-42 to transfer $20,000 from the General Fund to the Admin Building Capital Project Fund, and adopted Resolution 26-43 approving the FY2026-2027 appropriation. A hiring resolution (Resolution 26-41) certifying payroll appointments, including the part-time Advanced Life Provider (paramedic) Reid Taylor at $26.20/hour effective June 24, 2026, was also adopted.
The board approved minutes from June 16, 2026, and appointed Troy Wesslink and Tim Deutsch to the West Malaka Newton Benefited Fire District effective July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2029, and Randy Freese effective July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027. Each motion was recorded with a maker and seconder and carried by recorded votes of Supervisors Cupples, Talsma and Chairman Nearmyer.
These actions were entered into the official minutes; the Auditor’s office holds complete resolutions, contracts and project documents for public review.
