At its June 8, 2026 hybrid meeting, the Sharon Board of Education unanimously authorized the Sharon Housing Trust to dig test pits on school property on Saturday, June 13, to investigate options for running a water-supply line and connecting new Trust buildings to a sprinkler system. The motion, moved by Board member Chip Kruger and seconded by Nancy Hegy Martin, included conditions that testing be at no cost to the school, that holes be restored to pre-test condition, and that the Trust provide a certificate of insurance naming Sharon Center School for $1,000,000. Board member Terry Vance recused himself from the vote.
The request from Sharon Housing Trust initiated the discussion; the Trust presented the water-line connection as a way to extend sprinkler protection to its new buildings. Sam Herrick was named as an on-site contact to be involved in the testing. Chair Philip O’Reilly recognized the Trust’s need to evaluate subsurface conditions before committing to an engineering plan.
The board amended the original motion to specify the insurance amount. The motion carried unanimously among voting members present (one member recused). The board did not authorize construction or permanent connection at the meeting; the vote permitted only the limited exploratory testing described.
