The Sharon Board of Finance voted May 19 to send proposed allocations from the town’s Opioid Settlement Fund to Town Meeting for formal approval.
Two requests were presented to the board: one from NW Hills Council of Governments and one from the Sharon Fire Department Ambulance Squad. The board reported a balance of $24,312.89 in the settlement fund and, citing the town auditor’s guidance, said any allocation must be approved at Town Meeting for transparency.
Board of Finance member Mrs. Pastre reviewed the NW Hills COG request and Ms. Toppan reviewed the Ambulance Squad request. Ms. Flaton moved to forward allocations of $14,000 to the ambulance squad and $10,000 to NW Hills COG to Town Meeting; Mrs. Robertson seconded. The motion carried "all in favor," and board members thanked Mrs. Pastre and Ms. Toppan for their work on the requests.
The referral means the allocations will be considered by voters at the next Town Meeting rather than being finalized by the BOF; the auditor’s guidance was cited by board members as the reason for the referral. The BOF did not adopt final disbursements at this session.
The BOF’s next regular meeting is scheduled for June 16 at 6:30 p.m.
