The Eldora City Council voted to accept Digot Land Improvements’ $6,000 bid to demolish the former church at 1510 14th Street and authorized the code enforcement officer to sign an agreement with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for a derelict building grant to help cover demolition costs.
Council reviewed three bids: McDow & Sons ($7,800), Gerie/Gerkies ($10,800), and Digot ($6,000). Staff noted Digot’s lower price included an offer to take reusable block and metal, which would increase the town’s landfill-diversion percentage and raise its grant match. Staff also reported the grant’s maximum possible reimbursement related to diversion benchmarks and said the grant amount is not to exceed $8,650.
Costs tied to abatement and deconstruction were described as asbestos abatement $2,800 and deconstruction $7,800, for a total around $10,600; with Digot’s bid and grant support staff said the town expects much of the cost to be covered. The council accepted the Digot bid and authorized contract execution for the DNR grant on roll call.
