Orderville planning commission tables support letter for UDOT trail study

The Orderville Planning and Zoning Commission on May 18, 2026 tabled discussion of a requested letter of support for a Utah Department of Transportation feasibility study to extend a foot-and-bike trail from Mount Carmel Junction along Highway 9 to the East Zion Visitor Center.
UDOT asked for support from affected governing entities; commissioners emphasized that the study carries no direct financial obligation for the town. After a brief discussion Tony Collins moved to table a letter of support; Letitia Cox seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
During the meeting local resident Ed Myers raised concerns about the proposed trail. Planning staff member Breanna Crofts said she would provide the commission with renderings Myers had previously shared with the Town Council. No formal direction to endorse or oppose the study was recorded at the meeting.
