The Riley County Commission voted to approve a one-year employee assistance program (EAP) contract with Pony Mental Health Services to provide up to three counseling sessions per covered non-benefits-eligible person, including volunteer firefighters and election workers. Human resources director Elizabeth Ward said the service was already being used and that the plan’s per-employee cost calculates to roughly $1 per month.
Ward emphasized confidentiality and usage tracking that provides only aggregate numbers (no names). Commissioners asked about utilization rates; HR said five sessions were used in the most recent 12-month period and that usage fluctuates year to year. The board moved and seconded the contract and approved it.
Earlier in the meeting, the board approved a set of employee action forms noting separations in the health department. Those personnel actions were moved, seconded, and approved during the public session.
