Jackson County board approves two NACo resolutions on ESA and gray wolf delisting

At the June 11 staff meeting the Jackson County Board of Commissioners approved (unanimously among the three commissioners present) a resolution to NACo on the Endangered Species Act and an amended resolution on delisting the gray wolf; motions were moved and seconded and both passed.
The Jackson County Board of Commissioners staff meeting on June 11, 2026, approved two resolutions for submission to the National Association of Counties (NACo).
County Counsel Joel Benton told the board the draft resolution on the Endangered Species Act was unchanged from the June 4 discussion. Commissioner Colleen Roberts moved to approve the resolution as presented; Commissioner Randy Sparacino seconded the motion and the board voted aye (Commissioners Roberts, Sparacino and Chair Rick Dyer).
On a separate item, staff discussed a draft NACo resolution regarding delisting the gray wolf. Commissioners indicated support for an amendment to the language addressing the proliferation of the gray wolf. Commissioner Sparacino moved to approve the resolution as amended; Commissioner Roberts seconded and the motion passed with all aye votes recorded (Sparacino, Roberts, Dyer).
The minutes record that Commissioner Roberts will submit the approved Endangered Species Act resolution to NACo next week. The minutes do not include the full text of the amendment to the gray wolf resolution; the board recorded support for changing the language about "proliferation of the gray wolf."
