Board members asked whether Chromebooks would be funded through CIP rather than the annual operating budget. A district official said that the district has historically used grants (including ESSER funds) and occasional appropriations to cover large technology purchases; using CIP would be a way to finance major purchases so they are not purchased repeatedly out of the operating budget. The board was told the Chromebook cycle replaces three grade levels per year and that devices are expected to have a four-year lifecycle.
Members raised a concern about the newly replaced soccer playing field, saying it felt uneven during play; staff reported that the field was overseeded during the summer and followed up with the coach and facilities team about grading and edge conditions.
Superintendent Patrick notified the board that a community member handed a $2,000 check to Mrs. Fox at open house. Under board policy the district may accept such donations; staff said they would send a letter of gratitude and include the donation in upcoming board correspondence. The board also received a late donation of library books for the high school and plans to include correspondence about the gift in the next packet.
On open-choice reimbursement, the board reviewed a reply from external officials and members said the response read as "positive but quite evasive," noting the need for clarification on how reimbursement calculations will be made and when payments will be provided. Staff said they will continue to pursue clarity from the agencies involved and will include correspondence at the next meeting.
