DDA approves public survey process to choose lamp-post color

The Downtown Development Authority on May 13 approved an enhancement-committee plan to solicit public input on a lamp-post repainting project by placing three painted poles at a single intersection and attaching QR codes that link to a short, in-person survey.
Under the procedure approved by the DDA, each of three colors will be painted temporarily at the chosen intersection and residents and visitors may scan the QR code at the pole to rank preference among the three options. The primary question will ask respondents to rank Harbor Blue, Dragon's Breath (a gray variant), and Glossy Black. Survey questions will also optionally collect respondents’ residency category and whether they own or operate a downtown business so the enhancement committee can provide demographic context for results.
Board members and committee members emphasized the survey is advisory, not a binding election; the enhancement committee will weigh responses along with qualitative comments and bring a recommendation to the DDA and, ultimately, the City Council. Committee members also discussed finish (glossy vs. matte), recommended a single finish (glossy) for consistency, and set a modest cap for sign printing costs.
Staff noted the committee has already placed a deposit with a paint supplier to reserve capacity and asked the enhancement committee to consider the trade-off if long-term fixture replacement plans (for dark-sky compliance) proceed in coming years. The DDA approved the survey process and directed the enhancement committee to return survey results and its recommendation for final action.
