Health Officer Maya Harlow updated the Caldwell Board of Health on Feb. 10 about recent clinics, routine inspections and interagency preparedness for anticipated large events.
Harlow reported that the Jan. 24 rabies clinic was well attended, with 25 dogs and one cat receiving service. She also reported glucose-screening events: on Jan. 15 seven people attended and there was one referral; on Jan. 28 six people attended. Harlow told the board that approximately 3.5 million people are expected to attend the FIFA World Cup this summer, and that Bloomfield and the Essex County Health Departments are planning to assess and address any potential effects on local residents' health.
Board members questioned routine and pre-operational Chapter 24 inspection evaluations as well as animal-control activities; Harlow said staff explained the inspection evaluations and animal-control work to the board's satisfaction. The board recorded the updates and adjourned at 7:07 p.m.; its next meeting will be April 14, 2026.
