Municipal Agent and Social Services Director Daniel Simonelli reported at the May 4, 2026 meeting of the Commission for the Aging that Energy Assistance continues to be provided to eligible residents and that the commission is organizing a Food Pantry expected to be ready by mid-summer. Nonexpired donated items collected by a volunteer will be routed to Operation Hope in Fairfield when appropriate.
Simonelli said he will host a Summer Safety Lunch & Learn on Thursday, May 14; Danielle Ramos, RN, from Cambridge is scheduled to attend. He also said staff are finalizing a summer mailer with program updates and will staff a table at the Easton Library Resource Fair on Sunday, May 31 from 1–5 p.m. to share information on Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP and other services.
The commission is creating a new email list to distribute periodic program updates and is reviewing the Health Aide & Care Giver Information List to ensure contact details are current. Members noted the importance of clear outreach so seniors can access services and asked staff to coordinate logistics for the pantry launch and fair participation.
Lisa Tasi and Daniel Simonelli agreed to ask Town Treasurer Christine Calvert to run a mid-year fiscal report on the MCS Fund so the commission can confirm available resources for planned programs. The commission will review those figures and receive program updates at its next meeting, a special session scheduled for Monday, June 8, 2026, from 5–6 p.m. at the Easton Senior Center.
