Easton fire chief reports rising call volume, radio upgrade and regional dispatch transition

Fire Chief R. Klem told the Easton Board of Fire Commissioners on April 15 that the department handled 48 calls in March and that he expects about 600 calls for 2026. “There were 48 calls in March 2026,” he said.
Klem said the 2026–27 budget has been approved by the Town and noted the Easton Volunteer Fire Department contributes approximately $60,000 annually to support the department. He also reported that the radio project is on schedule and “is expected to be completed by mid-May 2026.”
On the town’s dispatch change, Klem said the transition is advancing and gave a tentative completion timetable. “The Town's dispatch operations change is moving along with a tentative date of completion in mid- May 2026,” he said.
Commissioners approved the minutes from the March 18 meeting with no changes earlier in the session. The meeting moved into executive session at 8:02 p.m. and reconvened at 8:24 p.m.; the minutes record no formal actions taken during that executive session. Commissioner David Katz moved to adjourn at 8:30 p.m.; the motion was seconded and the meeting ended.
The department’s March incident report, provided to commissioners, lists medical calls, illness and public-service responses among the most frequent categories and was attached to the monthly minutes at the commissioners’ request.
