The Village of Mattawan Council voted 6–1 on Feb. 23 to direct village staff to prepare an ordinance draft for workforce housing that incorporates Michigan’s 10% maximum for payment-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILOT) agreements.
Council member Streeter moved the motion; Begeman seconded. The motion passed with council members Begeman, Daniel, Gurley, McLean, Monroe and Streeter voting yes and Council President Jessalyn Stuut voting no. The council instructed staff to present the draft for further discussion at its March 9, 2026 regular meeting at 7:00 p.m.
