Jamila Winder, chair of the Montgomery County Commissioners, visited East Norriton to outline the county’s plans for America’s 250th anniversary, highlight new county branding and historic-site programming, and urge residents to use official county channels for information.
Winder said Montgomery County has formed a commission to coordinate local celebrations tied to the national 250th milestone and that municipalities across the county will host events. “Celebrating 250 years, as a country is just a significant milestone,” she said, adding that the county will host a county birthday event at One Montgomery Plaza in downtown Norristown and that several activities are planned at Valley Forge National Park and other historic sites. She also pointed to the recently opened Speaker’s House as an additional destination for history-focused programming.
Host Joe Gervadis, East Norriton township supervisor, framed the visit as an opportunity to inform residents about county services and local celebrations. Gervadis described East Norriton’s own community day, typically held the Saturday after Labor Day, and said the township has not raised taxes since 2009. “We haven’t raised taxes since 2009,” he said, crediting prior board members with helping to preserve that policy.
Winder highlighted work by the county communications team to refresh the county logo and raise awareness of county services. She encouraged residents to follow Montgomery County on social media, sign up for the county newsletter via montgomerycountypa.org, and contact county staff with questions. Winder provided a county email for public inquiries (jamila@montgomerycountypa.gov) and said the county has a team ready to respond.
The visit closed with mutual appreciation for local ties: both speakers noted Winder’s local roots and past township service. The segment ended with Gervadis inviting residents to greet Winder at community events and a sign-off thanking viewers for watching EMTV.
