Clover hires Chartwells; food-service leaders highlight diverse menus, teaching trailer and chef event

District and Chartwells staff described changes under a new food-service contract intended to broaden menu variety and student culinary education. Brandon Lewis, an area director for Chartwells, told the board the program is "really focusing on Fresh" and on menu diversity, citing examples such as tikka masala and jerk chicken alongside traditional "meat-and-three" offerings.
Administrators said the district developed a mobile teaching food trailer (a successor to a previous shipping-container "teaching kitchen") equipped with TVs and a demonstration table so students across multiple schools can see live demonstrations, learn cooking techniques and engage with culturally authentic recipes developed in partnership with chefs. Marketing staff said the district partners with chefs "from different countries to ensure that the recipes we’re developing are true authentic flavors."
Superintendent and Chartwells representatives also announced a culinary event in Spartanburg on Oct. 3 featuring celebrity chef Jet Tila; district staff said students from multiple districts will attend demonstrations and classes. Board members and the superintendent thanked Chartwells for its work; no board vote was required for the presentation.
