Mendon Township Planning Commission approves minutes, sets 2025 meeting dates and hears brief updates on solar ordinance, housing and biofuel facility

At its April 15, 2025 meeting, the Mendon Township Planning Commission approved Feb. 18 minutes and the agenda, set regular 2025 meeting dates and received updates from Chairperson Kline on a planned solar-ordinance language revision, affordable housing coordination with the Village, the status of a previously approved biofuel facility and the Joint County Master Land Use Plan.
The Mendon Township Planning Commission met April 15, 2025, at Mendon Township Hall. Chairperson Kline called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m.; Planning Commission members McClish and Hart were present and members Kloosterman and Ahrens were absent. The commission approved the minutes of its Feb. 18, 2025 meeting and accepted the agenda before hearing a series of brief updates.
Chairperson Kline said she will follow up with Attorney Haas to seek limited language changes to the township’s solar ordinance rather than reopening the entire ordinance for revision. She reported there were no active solar project proposals that had advanced to formal filings at this time.
Kline also said the commission is awaiting input from the Village on possible measures to expand affordable housing options in the community; no township-side actions were announced. Regarding the Biofuel Farm Production Facility that the township previously approved after a public hearing, Kline said the statutory waiting period has passed and the township has received no further communications; she suggested removing the item from future agendas unless new materializes.
On regional planning, Kline reported that the Joint County Master Land Use Plan is nearing completion and will soon be scheduled for a public hearing; she described the process as slow-moving.
Under administrative items the commission set its regular 2025 meeting schedule for the third Tuesday of each quarter (January 14, April 15, July 15 and October 21) and said special meetings would be scheduled as needed on the third Tuesday of each month except on holidays. There were no public comments and no miscellaneous commissioner remarks recorded.
Planning Commission member Hart moved to adjourn; McClish supported the motion and the meeting adjourned at 7:07 p.m. The minutes were submitted and are signed by Township Clerk Donna Cupp.
