Unions agree to delay Section 27l bargaining until summer; draft compensation LOA could reach Board

Mark Mesbergen, a member of the Fruitport Community Schools Personnel Committee, told the committee on Feb. 2 that unions and associations representing district educators have agreed to delay bargaining over Section 27l(2) until this summer.
Mesbergen said the district received state revenue in the FY2026 budget intended to improve educator compensation; the minutes do not specify dollar amounts. He also shared a draft letter of agreement on compensation and told the committee that if the union(s) agree to the LOA this week, the Board would be asked to act during its February regular meeting.
No formal vote on the LOA was recorded at the committee meeting. The committee's role at the session was informational; any final action would occur at the Board meeting if the unions ratify or accept the LOA.
