Oconee County Council approves consent items and hears public concerns about libraries, fraternities and sheriff’s office

Consent agenda: Council approved the consent agenda by motion (mover Glenn Hart, seconder John Elliott), vote 5–0. Items included the April 15, 2025 meeting minutes; a procurement award for replacement of a tower and rotating beacon at the Oconee County Regional Airport to Walker and Whiteside, Inc. in the amount of $141,480 (County share 20% $28,296; South Carolina Aeronautics Commission reimbursable 80% $113,184); and Proclamation 2025-05 designating Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, which the council approved on first and final reading by unanimous vote.
Presentations: Prisma Health representatives Hunter Kome and Aaron Dix provided a short overview of local ambulance services using a PowerPoint titled "Prisma Health Ambulance Service Oconee Division," a copy of which was filed in the meeting backup.
Public comment highlights: Ms. Victoria Landon raised concerns about the county public library system; Mr. Lee Hill complained about fraternity houses and parties. Mr. Michael Grant presented a document from the State Ethics Commission related to Oconee County Planning Commission Chair Mike Johnson for Council review. Mr. Jason Boyle raised complaints about the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, and Ms. Kim Alexander requested an additional staff member for the Oconee Soil and Water Conservation District office. Chair Matthew Durham responded to the commenters; Councilmember John Elliott asked staff to investigate fraternity-house complaints and requested a return with recommendations. County Administrator Amanda F. Brock said no motion was needed and that she had already discussed occupancy standards with the City of Clemson; Council agreed to add the topic to the May 20 committee agenda for Law Enforcement, Public Safety and Health and Welfare.
