Gates Chili board hears safety‑plan compliance report and minor code‑of‑conduct edits

Olan said the package contains four targeted language adjustments and one new appendix: additions to tier‑three behavior examples to add "leaving campus without permission," a clarification that VPNs are not permitted as technology‑use workarounds, an expanded trespassing definition to note K–8 students unaccompanied outside school hours, extra wording on items that resemble weapons, and a new Appendix E to provide behavior expectations, interventions and responses for transportation.
Olan described these edits as refinements intended to align district practice with state regulations and improve implementation clarity for staff. The public hearing on the code of conduct received no public comments during the session and was closed before the board resumed reorganizational business.
The board will proceed with the code of conduct as presented unless schedule or procedural steps require additional review; no formal vote on substantive changes was recorded in the hearing segments.
