Buford commission authorizes multimillion-dollar payments for stadium, school and sewer work; appoints downtown development authority member

The commission likewise approved Payment #19 for $3,940.58 to H. Lloyd Hill Architect & Associates, Inc. for Buford Senior Academy renovations and Payment #2 for $170,462.75 to JDS, Inc. for New Bethany Road sewer improvements. Further payments approved included Payment #20 ($855,838.00) and Invoice #2403-002-1 ($298,968.46) to Charles Black Construction Company, Inc. for the Buford Senior Academy addition and the Legion Fields playground project, respectively, and Payment #1 ($97,007.00) to Charles Black Construction Company, Inc. for Buford City Gym parking. All listed payment motions passed by recorded vote (Ayes 3, Nays 0) as shown in the meeting record.
The commission also approved two temporary street closures: Moreno Street (from Garentt St. to Scott St.) on Oct. 26 for the First Pentecostal Church of Buford, and Main Street (from Hill St. to Alexander St.) on Dec. 3 for the Main Street Holiday Market. Both closures were approved 3–0.
The commission appointed Robert Perkins to the Buford Downtown Development Authority by unanimous vote. The body also authorized release of pledged funds with Peoples Bank & Trust; Chairman Phillip Beard abstained from that motion (Ayes 2, Abstained 1).
