Florence council adopts $40,000 firearms and $170,000 vehicle appropriations for police

Ordinance No. 2026-12 appropriates $40,000 "for the acquisition of firearms, sights and required accessories associated with Police Department operations," a measure supported in public comment by resident Don Cammus, who told council "upgrading the firearms is important for officer’s safety." Council approved the ordinance on second reading.
Ordinance No. 2026-13 appropriates $170,000 for acquisition of two police pursuit-rated SUVs with upfit and required emergency services equipment. Administrator Thomas A. Sahol explained the cost components: per-vehicle base prices are around $45,000, with additional charges for equipment, camera systems, lights, radio, marking and computer/cellular modem installation, and upfit work when changing models from Tahoe to Explorer. Resident Don Cammus asked whether the State Master Lease Program might offer lower prices; Sahol said the Township purchases from a State contract and that the listed appropriation covers both vehicles and upfit costs.
Both ordinances passed by unanimous roll-call votes (YEAS: Fratinardo, Gabriele, Loftin, Sullivan, Frappolli). The council did not amend appropriation amounts during the meeting; procurement and upfit timing were not specified beyond normal purchasing processes.
