Florence council agrees to 9 a.m. Sunday openings for liquor and cannabis retailers; ordinance to be drafted

Administrator Thomas A. Sahol told the council the issue began with a request from Blake Dimon, owner of The Liquor Barn, for a 9:00 a.m. start on Sundays; industry representatives had discussed the potential for an 8:00 a.m. opening to accommodate shift workers. Council members debated start times and settled on 9:00 a.m. as a compromise. Sahol said he will prepare an ordinance for council consideration at the next meeting.
Council did not take a final vote to change the municipal code at the June 10 meeting; the action recorded was direction to draft ordinance language and bring it back for formal consideration and any required public hearing.
Next steps: Township administration will prepare ordinance language for introduction at a future meeting.
