Chelsea’s City Council appointed Community Development Director Adrianna Jordan as Acting City Manager on May 1, effective immediately, following the April 21 resignation of City Manager Roy Atkinson. The appointment will remain in place until an outside Interim Acting City Manager approved by council starts work, with a targeted start date of May 15.
Council discussed whether to use internal staff temporarily or hire an outside interim. Peter Feeney moved to appoint Jordan; Eric Keaton seconded the motion, which passed with all members voting in favor. Atkinson’s resignation and the short-term appointment reflect staff capacity constraints cited by city leadership; the council instructed staff to continue the search for a contracted interim to begin mid-May.
Separately, council reviewed applications for the external Interim Acting City Manager position and approved a motion to interview three candidates — listed by council as Wain Bling, Troy Bell and Elke — with interview recommendations to be presented at a special council meeting on May 8. The motion to interview was moved by Tony lannelli and seconded by Charles Wiseley.
The council’s actions split operational continuity (temporary internal appointment) from the search for a longer, externally contracted interim. No employment terms for the external candidates were disclosed during the meeting. The council’s work session on candidate interviews is scheduled for May 8.
