Chelsea approves zoning ordinance text amendments at first reading
Summary
Council approved at first reading several zoning text amendments including swapping T-1/T-2 designations, allowing one wall sign per business per public-entrance side downtown, extending certain approval expiration periods, and changes to certificate of occupancy procedures.
At its May 4 meeting Chelsea City Council approved at first reading a package of zoning ordinance text amendments following Planning Commission recommendations.
Community Development Consultant Michelle Marin summarized the Planning Commission’s motions: switch the T-1 and T-2 district designations in the Schedule of Permitted Uses; permit one wall sign per business on each side of a building that contains a public entrance in the Downtown zoning district; extend final site plan and special use permit expiration periods from 180 days to one year and from 545 days to two years, respectively; and amend procedures for issuing Certificates of Occupancy. Council approved the amendments at first reading by unanimous vote.
The amendments proceed under the City’s standard ordinance adoption process; they may return for a second reading or further amendment before final adoption.
