County clears application to update Conesus Lake watershed land‑use rules

Livingston County planning staff on July 1 won committee approval to submit an application to New York State’s Local Waterfront Revitalization Program to fund updates to land‑use regulations in the Conesus Lake watershed.
Megan Crowe, Planning director, said the county would use grant funding to hire a consultant to work with watershed municipalities — including the towns of Conesus, Geneseo, Groveland, Livonia and Sparta and the Village of Livonia — to identify updates to local erosion and sediment control laws and model regulations aimed at reducing runoff into Conesus Lake. The Planning Department will provide both cash and in‑kind match for the project, Crowe said. The Watershed Management Plan recently identified impervious cover and erosion as contributors to weed and algae problems in the lake.
The committee approved the resolution on a motion by Mr. White with Mr. Schuster seconding; the minutes record the motion as carried. The municipalities would retain the option to adopt any recommended updates to their land‑use regulations.
Next steps: County staff will submit the LWRP application, pursue consultant procurement if funded, and coordinate outreach and technical assistance with watershed municipalities.
