MSBA approves Parker Middle School project to advance to schematic design

Town representatives told the Select Board that the Mass. School Building Authority voted unanimously to move the Parker Middle School replacement project into schematic design after a presentation by Superintendent Jay Lang and the project team.
The schematic-design phase will allow the project team and architects to produce detailed plans, scope and budget estimates that will guide the construction schedule and a future town-meeting authorization for borrowing. The MSBA asked for a work plan, town-meeting date and a projected design and construction schedule; town staff proposed an internal timeline and discussed an August 10 meeting to brief the Select Board and stakeholders before a later borrowing vote.
"Right after that presentation, the board took a vote and it was unanimous," the town manager reported, describing the MSBA action and the next procedural steps. Town staff said the MSBA will consider the project for final approval in December, and a special town meeting may be necessary to authorize borrowing before the next annual round.
