Select Board opts not to block state-authorized cannabis home delivery

The Select Board voted unanimously on June 29 not to opt out of new state Cannabis Control Commission rules that permit home delivery of cannabis from retail establishments, including deliveries into municipalities that previously voted against retail shops.
Board members debated the policy before the vote. Aaron said the town’s prior town-meeting vote — which he recalled as about 60% opposed to retail shops — should be considered when assessing deliveries, calling the state rule “a little bit of an end run around” the earlier local decision. He said he found limited evidence of direct municipal benefit in tax revenue but noted that delivery could help residents who cannot travel.
Other members framed the rule as distinct from allowing a retail storefront. Jeff said delivery could provide needed access for some residents with medical needs, and John emphasized the difference between permitting retail locations in town and allowing third-party deliveries into town.
After discussion, Jeff moved that the board not opt out of deliveries under the state rule; the motion passed by roll call vote 5–0. Board members asked staff to monitor implementation and determine what local remedies, if any, are available if problems arise.
