Board approves downtowns application, fees update, an appointment and several routine items

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen carried several non-budget items by unanimous votes during its June 29 meeting.
Staff presented Resolution 2047 supporting the city's participation in the Certified Tennessee Downtowns program; the board approved the resolution 5-0. Staff said participation would provide training, technical assistance and preserve eligibility for downtown improvement grants without committing the city to future capital matches.
The board also advanced an update to the city's comprehensive schedule of fees and charges (Ordinance 1686, second of three readings). Staff said many fees had not been updated since 2015; the measure passed a 5-0 vote.
On personnel, the board confirmed Nick Kimbro as the city's director of Planning, Codes and Life Safety. Staff praised Kimbro's leadership on building-safety responses, and the appointment passed 5-0.
Other routine approvals included renewal of a municipal software/hardware maintenance agreement for FY27 at $71,719 (5-0) and a unanimous vote to provide a non-financial letter of support to Centerstone for a federal adult suicide-prevention grant application; staff said the letter carries no financial obligation for the city.
Members briefly convened the beer board to approve a consent agenda item and then adjourned.
