Representatives of the Louisiana‑Mississippi Regional Blinded Veterans Association described the group's history and asked the council to allow a tactile Braille American flag and plaque to be displayed in City Hall. Shauntina Gibson, identified in the meeting as the regional group's president, explained the flag integrates raised stars and stripes with Pledge of Allegiance text in braille and noted the group's effort to place flags and plaques at VA hospitals, clinics and public facilities across Louisiana and Mississippi.
Presenters said the regional group has worked with other veterans service organizations and civic clubs to place more than 70 such displays and suggested City Hall's lobby would be a prominent location. Council members thanked the veterans for their service and agreed to locate the flag in a public spot for visitors to view and touch.
No formal vote was needed beyond acceptance of the request; council members and staff indicated they would make arrangements to post the display in a highly visible area of City Hall.
