League reports athletic field upgrades; Verizon employee offers utility poles for possible future lights

HINSDALE — Jake Harte updated the Select Board on the ongoing restoration of the Hinsdale Athletic Field during public comment on June 10, saying the local league has invested several thousand dollars in new infield clay, conditioner and extensive cleanup and that practices have already started despite the season being nearly over.
Harte said the league has received strong community support in the form of donations and volunteer time. He also reported that a community member who works for Verizon has offered to donate utility poles that could support future field lighting. Harte emphasized that any lighting or electrical upgrades would be pursued only in partnership with the Town and that lighting would be a significant and potentially costly project that would require further planning and fundraising.
The league hopes to begin discussions with town officials about electricity and lighting needs before next season to determine whether expanded fundraising or planning should proceed.
