The Abita Springs Planning and Zoning Commission reviewed two short-term rental applications at its March 26, 2026 meeting and accepted its January 2026 minutes before adjourning.
Staff member Kristen said the first file, a renewal for 22195 6th Street belonging to Jolene Garcia, was complete but had been submitted after the March 1 administrative cutoff. "She just missed the deadline," Kristen said, and commissioners noted there had been no complaints about the property over the past year.
The commission then considered a new application for 72078 Rosalie Street. Kristen told the panel that the applicant lives adjacent to the rental house, that insurance, a fire inspection and required paperwork were in order, and that the applicant would be able to manage the property from nearby. The onsite resident and applicant described the property’s history, saying it was originally part of a Toledano family compound and that the house had been rented for a year. "We always had a desire to turn it into an Airbnb and we're so close," the resident said, adding that the proximity would make management and oversight easy.
Commissioners asked no follow-up questions in the record and indicated they had no objections to moving forward. The chair closed the zoning portion of the meeting and solicited public comment; none was offered.
