Summary

The City of York council voted Sept. 18 to buy a 2026 sewer jet/vac combination truck from McQueen without the vendor's bundled six-year preventative-maintenance plan.
City staff member Chris explained that the difference between the two quotes centered on the preventative-maintenance contract. "After meeting with the sales rep, Greg at Lincoln, currently we take our truck there for service... it's right about $4,000 a year instead of the $7,000 that they want for the six-year period," Chris said, arguing that the city could use its existing local service relationship and save money. Staff presented the cost difference as roughly $42,000 upfront.
Based on that recommendation the council moved and approved proceeding with the quote without the preventative-maintenance services at $452,399.22.
What happens next: Purchasing will proceed through the city's procurement and budgeting processes; the maintenance plan will be provided by local service rather than the vendor's long-term contract.
